Areola Restoration Tattoos
THE PROCESS

#1- Consultation and Goal Identification
Areola restoration tattoos are 3 dimensional, with strategic placement of color and shadow to create the visual image of a protruding nipple. This is a highly customized process that is tailored to every individual.
The process begins with a consultation (in person or via phone). We review medical history, assess skin heath/condition and where you are at in the process of recovery. We talk through your goals for the procedure and the desired end-result. Treatment options will vary by individual and we discuss & review the best options based on your unique situation.

#2- Placement & Size
The first step is to create symmetry in placement and size. Size, shape and positioning (of both Areola and nipple) are carefully considered for balance and then measured for accuracy. Sometimes is is beneficial to work with scars in advance of tattoo to achieve optimal results. The actual 'landscape' of the skin is considered and flaws/imperfections can often be used to add to the 3-dimensional look. The end result usually creates a focal point for the eye which helps to make any existing scars visibly recede.
Areolas are naturally imperfect and slightly different from each other - 'imperfect perfection' is the goal to create the most realistic result.

#3 - Color Selection
Next step is to consider color: a truly realistic result is not achieved using a single color. When doing the procedure, a customized pallet will be created to make the healed result look great with your skin and optimize realism. A combination of 6-8 colors is carefully constructed : 2 base colors, highlight and low lights which are combined to create a hyper-realistic healed result-- that blends with beautifully with your skin. If meeting prior to procedure, pre-concept work may even be done to achieve the right artistic elements in the design. All bodies are unique and taking a customized approach with color an essential part of the process.
I work carefully with each client on all aspects of the process to create a unique end result that is 100% customized. We work together to achieve the best overall look, balancing shape, size and color.
THE RESULTS

Bi-Lateral Mastectomy & Reconstruction without nipple reconstruction
This Client had Bi-lateral Mastectomy & Reconstruction and decided NOT to have a nipple graft and/or tattoo done at her surgeons office. In this case, there are no prior (surgical) considerations that would drive placement. We carefully chose colors that would compliment her skin tone. During the second treatment, colors were added to further enhance the 3D visual effect and make the (flat) surface appear protruding.

Bi-Lateral Mastectomy & Reconstruction
This Client had both tattoo & nipple graft- (done at a surgeons office ) 9 years prior. The original tattoo was very faded and nipple grafts had flattened out. Areola and nipple placement can be limited in cases where prior surgical procedures have been done--the new placement follows any remaining nipple graft skin contours. Sometimes prior pigmentation can 'bleed through' and impact how the new pigment deposits and retains. Scars can be managed so they are less noticeable and blend in.

Breast Lift/Reduction : Camouflage & Scar reduction
This procedure varies greatly based on the type of scar tissue--all require evaluation in advance to determine the best way scars can be treated and the most appropriate techniques to utilize. This client had breast reduction and nipple graft 9 years prior. 'Pinwheel' scarring on her right side and irregular, flat scars on left side from the surgery. Symmetry is restored in the Areola margins by carefully blending color around the scars. Positioning of the nipple was pre-determined by the surgery, so placement isn't ideal, but still looks reasonable without making the areola too large.

As a member of the Sauler Selective Artist program, Lasting Impression can offer additional support for Breast Cancer clients.
